Accessibility statement
Last updated: 20 September 2026
Alumys wants every examinee to be able to take an examination, and every examiner to be able to run one, whatever assistive technology they use. This statement says what we conform to, what we know falls short, and how to reach us.
Conformance target
The examinee application (the pages an invited person uses to read the notice, answer questions, review and see results) is built to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA. Every screen of that application is checked against those criteria with an automated audit on each release, and the examination flow is exercised with a keyboard alone.
The management console (this site) is partially conformant: its public pages and the settings screens follow the same design system and its keyboard and contrast rules, but the console has not yet had a full audit. It is next.
What the examinee application provides
- Every question type — choices, short and numeric answers, written answers and code — can be answered with the keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator throughout.
- The code editor has a plain editor switch that replaces it with an ordinary text box; the choice is remembered for the attempt.
- A timed examination announces the time left at the half-way and quarter marks, at one tenth, and at five and one minutes — not every second — through a polite live region, and the visible timer carries a spoken equivalent.
- Moving to a question places focus on its heading; submitting places focus on the confirmation; results open on the score.
- Page regions are marked up as landmarks, a skip link leads to the question, the page language is declared, and motion is reduced when the operating system asks for it.
- Text and controls meet the AA contrast ratio in both themes, including when an organisation applies its own colours: derived text shades are pulled back toward the text colour until they clear the ratio.
Known limitations
- The code editor itself (Monaco) exposes its own accessibility tree; screen-reader users may prefer the plain editor.
- Mathematical notation in questions is rendered visually (KaTeX); the source expression is available to assistive technology, but a spoken rendering is not yet provided.
- Images an organisation adds to its questions carry the alternative text that organisation wrote; Alumys cannot verify it.
- The management console has not been fully audited (see above).
- No conformance claim is made for third-party services examinees may be sent to (the identity provider's sign-in pages, payment pages).
Conformance report (VPAT)
A technical draft of the Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT 2.5, WCAG edition) for the examinee application is kept with the application's source: VPAT draft. It is reviewed before publication with the security packet.
Feedback and contact
If you meet a barrier, write to accessibility@alumys.com (confirm) with the page and what you were trying to do. We aim to reply within five business days. An examinee who needs an accommodation for a specific examination — extra time, for example — should ask the organisation that invited them; the invitation email names the contact.
